Definitsioon: an abnormal increase of ketone bodies in the body in conditions of reduced or disturbed carbohydrate metabolism (as in uncontrolled diabetes mellitus) [M-W]
Definitsioon: a metabolic state characterized by raised levels of ketone bodies in the body tissues, which is typically pathological in conditions such as diabetes, or may be the consequence of a diet that is very low in carbohydrates [Lexico]
Definitsioon: metabolic disorder marked by high levels of ketones in the tissues and body fluids, including blood and urine [BRITANNICA Ketosis]
Märkus: it occurs when fatty acids are incompletely metabolized, a complication of diabetes mellitus, starvation, and alcoholism [TER-PLUS]
Märkus: Ketosis is dangerous because high levels make the blood abnormally acid and there is loss of water, sodium and potassium and a major biochemical upset with nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, confusion, and, if the condition is not rapidly treated, coma and death. Mild ketosis also occurs in cases of excessive morning sickness in pregnancy. [TFDM]
